Those numbers on fertilizers:
1. Nitrogen – Nitrogen feeds the leaves, promoting rapid growth and gives the leaves their green color.
2. Phosphorus – Phosphorus promotes healthy, vigorous roots. This is important because the moisture and nutrients are taken up in the plant through the roots, so the more the better. Right?
3. Potassium – Potassium helps with the overall health of the plant, allowing the plant to produce more blooms and higher quality fruit and seeds.
How much of each of these is needed varies from plant to plant, from grass to trees and everything in between.
So when it comes to fertilizers, numbers matter.
